Title: Re: 8th December 2020 - Advent quiz - groups in common Post by: froome on December 08, 2020, 09:31:56 no 1 - all are termini on branch lines that used to continue onwards. Balloch originally continued to Balloch Pier; Uckfield met up with the line to Lewes, and Sheringham continued onto the Poppy Line to Holt.
Have they all been resited as well? Balloch was after Balloch Central and Pier stations closed, and Uckfield was resited after the Lewes line closed. Was Sheringham also resited? They were all resited on the opposite sides of level crossings, (and possibly that meant the level crossings could then be removed). My grandparents lived on the North Kent coast and we passed by the station on the way there. Not only did it mean the journey (pre M25 days) was nearly over but I was fascinated by the manual level crossing gates which it had at the time. I remember my father taking me there for an hour just so I could watch the procedure of opening and closing the gates a few times. Of course now replaced with barriers.
