Title: Bus or train? Post by: grahame on November 18, 2020, 17:20:01 My data feeds contain road and rail pictures and it was struck me that both industries classify vehicles using 5 digits. From these brief snippets, can you tell me which were trains and which were buses?

The funny thing is, 66725 is a train - (https://www.mainlinediesels.net/images/basic/emd_20058765003_58.jpg) - but there's no way that was seen on Nore Road in Portishead. ;D Title: Re: Bus or train? Post by: johnneyw on December 14, 2024, 22:40:54 "32292 seen near Lawrence Weston". My first thought was that it must be a bus but it depends what is meant by "near". The Henbury loop line goes some way north of Lawrence Weston, closer to Hallen really. I know the area as I used to live half a minute's walk from the nearby Blaise Castle Estate for twenty something years.
Title: Re: Bus or train? Post by: Chris from Nailsea on December 14, 2024, 22:56:51 Well, 32292 is indeed a bus:

Post by: Chris from Nailsea on December 15, 2024, 00:16:57 43048, however, is definitely a train: https://www.125group.org.uk/our-fleet/43048-hst-power-car/

Post by: eightonedee on December 15, 2024, 10:17:30 As someone who can never get anywhere near solving Grahame's "extract from timetables" quizes, I'l have a go at this one instead, and suggest that in addition to the ones identified by Chris and Johnneyw above, the busses are 33801, 39138, 39418 and 66726.
As to the other 66725, let's hope one day that it (or a sister loco) gets there hauling an engineering train on the final stages of reinstatement works! Title: Re: Bus or train? Post by: chuffed on December 15, 2024, 14:03:11 Living at the top end of Nore Road, Portishead, would I love to see a tram train from the old station, come up Nore Road, turn right, along the coast road, go through a tunnel at Walton on Gordano, (running across the golf course!), into East Clevedon, along Old Street, Old Church, to Salthouse Fields and on into Weston along the route of the WC&P.
I think Santa may have other ideas. Title: Re: Bus or train? Post by: Chris from Nailsea on December 18, 2024, 23:47:38 37099 is a train:

Post by: old original on December 20, 2024, 13:07:23 At least when the new class 99 freight locomotives are introduced next year they shouldn't be confused with the last "99's", they were considerably heavier and they floated!
I don't believe the ships physically had the number on them it was just an allocation they were given in the TOPS system. Title: Re: Bus or train? Post by: Chris from Nailsea on December 20, 2024, 14:17:57 66847 is yet another train:
