Title: TfGB submits plans to speed up zero carbon transition Post by: Red Squirrel on October 08, 2020, 15:30:41 Transport for Greater Bristol, an alliance of transport, environmental and community groups, has written to Transport Minister Grant Shapps with comprehensive proposals to speed up the transition to zero carbon emissions in the West of England.
Their proposals include a rapid transit plan for Bristol and Bath, parking and traffic management plans for Bristol, and a bus plan. You can download these plans here: https://tfgb.org/campaigns/bristol-transport-plan/ Title: Re: TfGB submits plans to speed up zero carbon transition Post by: Bmblbzzz on October 08, 2020, 18:15:06 Starts with the hard and controversial ? trams and tram gates ? then gets radical with de-motorwaying the M32. Impressive!
Title: Re: TfGB submits plans to speed up zero carbon transition Post by: Red Squirrel on October 08, 2020, 18:41:15 The Traffic Management Plan (https://tfgb.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/TfGB-Bristol-Traffic-Management-Plan.pdf) is quite something. I've read it a few times (I was involved in proofreading it), and it's been an interesting journey from scepticism to the realisation that it, or something very like it, is essential.
How you sell it is another matter! I've read it a few times (I was involved in proofreading it), and it's been an interesting journey from scepticism to the realisation that it, or something very like it, is essential. I've spotted two errors already! One of which is an extraneous "not" :o... but the other was so petty I've already forgotten it! :P (I've seen far worse in many commercial publications from reputable publishers ;))How you sell it is another matter! I'm reading through the section on "Inner North Bristol" atm and while I'm unsure about some of the detail, I like the general idea. De-motorwaying the M32 actually strikes me as rife with unforeseen consequences, but replacing many of the grade-separated roundabouts, eg on Easton Way, with ground-level signals, can only be positive. And judging by what's been done in the Temple Meads area it might even find favour with the local administration. Title: Re: TfGB submits plans to speed up zero carbon transition Post by: Bmblbzzz on October 08, 2020, 19:49:53 On the M32, I suppose one of the main points is the same as for Easton Way, St Philip's Causeway and similar urban dual-carriageways; it's not so much the traffic on them as the disruption they cause to other routes that would like to cross them, particularly but not only on foot. Footbridges every 200m?
