Title: Re: L&TV Ticket Office Closure - London Paddington Post by: Ollie on April 09, 2008, 11:00:10 Some background info: http://www.iworkforfgw.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=65
It does state early april, however no work has been done yet due to awaiting consultation. Title: Re: L&TV Ticket Office Closure - London Paddington Post by: eightf48544 on April 10, 2008, 10:52:42 I still come back to why is it closing?
It can't be to help passengers, so it must be to save FGW money, at the expense of service to their customers by replacing people with machines. Of course the great thing about machines for FGW is that many irregular/ one off travellers will people will buy the most expensive single ticket to their destination even if they are coming back. They also don't sell 4 for 2 in the old NSE area this is only available from manned booking offices. They also don't sell 4 for 2 in the old NSE area this is only available from manned booking offices. Any they don't sell off peak tickets until a few minutes before they become valid. If you arrive at the station early, buy your ticket during teh restricted period, buy a paper and drink and then catch a train after the restriction has lifted you get stung. I understand why the macines are programed thus but I would have thought that the operator was legally obligied to notify the customer that a limited range of tcikets was available?? Oyster PAYG also has problems with deciding if you travel in the peak or not. If you touch in in the peak but don't board a train until after the peak, you are legal on an off peak ticket but Oyster will charge you a peak fare! Title: Re: L&TV Ticket Office Closure - London Paddington Post by: Chris from Nailsea on May 15, 2008, 22:37:35 I believe the proposed replacement of the ticket office with machines is part of a franchise commitment - but I'm not sure of the details.

http://www.iworkforfgw.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=111&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a Quote from: Ollie Further to yesterdays posting more information has been obtained. The meeting between FGW and London TravelWatch has already taken place, and took place last Thursday 5th June. From what I have been told there is no objection from London Travel Watch or Passenger Focus regarding FGW's plans to close the office. However there is still currently no set date, as a further meeting needs to take place with the Department for Transport. Once this final hurdle is done, and approved, if it is, then a consultation will be released to the members of staff who are affected by the closure outlining dates. When more information is known, I will post it here. Title: Re: L&TV Ticket Office Closure - London Paddington Post by: Lee on June 17, 2008, 17:40:03 Latest in the link below :

It is estimated that the office will be closed by around the middle of July 2008 A consultation is being released to the staff of the office affected next week and when I get the opportunity to see this I will once again update on the blog. The consultation would be the document which will have the set dates of changes, so basically the official confirmation. Plan is to take out the windows and put TVM's in it's place. The shell inside will be used as an office for some other department. Title: Re: L&TV Ticket Office Closure - London Paddington Post by: devon_metro on November 01, 2008, 20:03:14 London & Thames Valley I presume
Title: Re: L&TV Ticket Office Closure - London Paddington Post by: grahame on November 01, 2008, 20:24:56 Yes ... and I've checked the abbreviations and it is there under LTV ... mind you, Phil's a moderator and he might have added it in the last few minutes ;)
Title: Re: L&TV Ticket Office Closure - London Paddington Post by: Ollie on November 02, 2008, 00:59:41 I must apologise, in earlier postings regarding the closure of this office I had referred to it as the London and Thames Valley Ticket Office, I'm sorry for not continuing to refer to it in that way.

I can now confirm the office will close on the 17th November. Title: Re: L&TV Ticket Office Closure - London Paddington Post by: Ollie on November 13, 2008, 01:49:41 Greetings from Florida.
By the looks of things being said I have picked an ideal time to be away. Just to follow up I have been told the London Thames Valley Ticket Office will close on the 15th and not the 17th. Ta :) Title: Re: L&TV Ticket Office Closure - London Paddington Post by: eightf48544 on November 13, 2008, 10:37:19 I'll be sad to see it go, it seemed to serve a useful purpose.
It's another case case of diminution of public service all in cause of "savings". Having to queue in the main office just makes the rail experience that little bit more unpleasant, especialy for new or non regular travellers who can't use the machines because they don't know what ticket to buy Title: Re: L&TV Ticket Office Closure - London Paddington Post by: kazbear on November 13, 2008, 15:52:14 Greetings from Florida.
