Title: Annual fare rises for next January?
Post by: grahame on July 21, 2020, 08:36:05
Are we just a couple of weeks away from announcement of the annual inflation rate and round 1 of "your rail fares will rise by x% next January?   How is inflation looking ? ... How relevant is this with Emergency Measures, Williams, and a changed economy, including both depression and extra costs on businesses to provide a service on top of coronavirus restrictions?

It looks like inflation was 0.6% for June and CPI 0.8%.

I think any increase at the moment would look out of step with rising unemployment and quite probably wage deflation. Doesn't mean it won't happen though.

Assuming I was commuting the lack of flexible options wasn't tempting me back and having to pay even an extra hundred pounds for my season would probably mean I'd take the stay at home option especially as I've lost my 5/10% discount when i cashed in my Season.
