Title: southwesternlines update Post by: swlines on April 07, 2008, 21:07:29 I've had a few comments about the fact that I haven't updated swlines/southwesternlines for a while - but I'm working on expanding the FGW area before I release it out into the wild. At the moment I'm working on the Brighton/Portsmouth/Frome - Cardiff Central/Gloucester/Great Malvern timetable.
It should be ready for the May timetable release which I've got all the data on now for the May change - there isn't too much significant that we don't already know about that I can see. Anyway, I'll release the FGW timetables I've got slowly when I get them finished. When they're finished - you'll see them here first! :) Title: Re: southwesternlines update Post by: Chris from Nailsea on April 07, 2008, 21:19:10 Thanks, Tom!
Glad you're apparently none the worse for your extended bash! ;) By the way, you seem to have modified your view on 444s? ;D Title: Re: southwesternlines update Post by: swlines on April 07, 2008, 21:25:19 They suck. There is nothing else to it. ;D
Still working on it ... should be ready within 2 hours or so. :) Title: Re: southwesternlines update Post by: Conner on April 07, 2008, 22:15:21 They suck. There is nothing else to it. ;D After getting on my first two last week I have to agree with you. How can you sit on that for 2 1/2 hours London-Weymouth, they are so uncomfortable. And they are just ugly, plain and boring.Title: Re: southwesternlines update Post by: swlines on April 07, 2008, 22:19:17 I generally try and sit in first class on them ;) - seating is quite good in that part.
It would be better if they shut up Celia though. :) To be fair, they were an improvement on the slammers on the Portsmouth route, but certainly not an 'improvement' on the 442s. Title: Re: southwesternlines update Post by: Conner on April 07, 2008, 22:31:56 It would be better if they shut up Celia though. :) She is anoing. When I went from Bournemouth-Weymouth she was also broken. Kept saying we were now aproaching station as we pulled in and saying we this station is ... as we pulled out and generally missed a few stations. Title: Re: southwesternlines update Post by: swlines on April 07, 2008, 23:04:08 Should have told the guard to put in code 0001. ;)
Title: Re: southwesternlines update Post by: Conner on April 07, 2008, 23:07:29 Should have told the guard to put in code 0001. ;) Is that to shut her up?Title: Re: southwesternlines update Post by: swlines on April 07, 2008, 23:08:19 It throws the internal displays to "Time South West Trains", side displays to "South West Trains" and front display to "SWT".
So yes! ;) Although you can still manually kick her in! Title: Re: southwesternlines update Post by: Conner on April 07, 2008, 23:12:25 Although you can still manually kick her in! And why would you want to do that? ;)Title: Re: southwesternlines update Post by: swlines on April 07, 2008, 23:17:13 It's quite handy for the weekend first upgrade announcement, as well as for LU disruption. there are quite a few announcements in the system are handier than they appear to be. Especially the penalty fares announcement - and CCTV.

Title: Re: southwesternlines update Post by: swlines on April 09, 2008, 11:38:37 Now released...
Portsmouth to Cardiff Monday to Friday timetable. Notes are included at the bottom of each page in this release. http://files.southwesternlines.co.uk/timetables/may/pmhcdf/pmhcdf_sx.pdf Title: Re: southwesternlines update Post by: Lee on April 09, 2008, 11:54:53 First glance I note :
0643 Frome-Cardiff Central service becomes 0646 Frome-Bristol Temple Meads and 0753 Bristol Temple Meads- Cardiff Central services. Changes to Weymouth/Frome services and Warminster/Dilton Marsh links. Removal of Avoncliff stop in the 0600 Portsmouth-Cardiff service but no improvement in journey time. Title: Re: southwesternlines update Post by: swlines on April 09, 2008, 12:05:35 That Frome - Cardiff is a funny one, I've got it shown as a through journey on one of my sources, a change on another, and one's showing it as a Gloucester! I have no idea which one to take on...
I would count that as a through journey even though the headcode changes. Title: Re: southwesternlines update Post by: swlines on April 09, 2008, 13:54:42 Now released, Portsmouth/Brighton to Cardiff/Gloucester Saturday timetable.

Note there are significant changes each day this timetable operates, in particular the first service is normally replaced by a bus to Bristol Parkway.

Some answers from FGW : Quote from: FGW 0643 Frome-Cardiff Central service becomes 0646 Frome-Bristol Temple Meads and 0753 Bristol Temple Meads- Cardiff Central services. - No longer the case. Will be formed 2x143, rear set will work through to Cardiff. Changes to Weymouth/Frome services and Warminster/Dilton Marsh links. - Weymouth morning/evening peak retimings are due to stakeholder request. Removal of Avoncliff stop in the 0600 Portsmouth-Cardiff service. - Required due to pathing constraint as this will be a 3-car strengthened to 4-car at Westbury. 1722 Portsmouth to Cardiff Central in the current timetable will be cut back to Bristol Temple Meads, and an additional 1959 Bristol Temple Meads to Cardiff will operate approximately 5 minutes later throughout calling at Filton Abbey Wood, Newport and Cardiff Central. - Service does run throughout on Fridays. Is required as is the only way to ensure sufficient maintenance time for unit exam overnight on the Marsh. FGW also pointed out the reinstatement of the 1838 Westbury-Bristol TM (retaining the half-hourly pattern.) That answers 1 worry then. I do wonder, though, how the Avoncliff folks feel about losing their 0822 arrival into Bath. 0808 & 0847 arrivals strike me as being a little too early and a little too late respectively. That said, I suspect that certain commuters from elsewhere in West Wiltshire would be happy with either, compared with what they have now..... I have sent a couple of e-mails to try and find out the Avoncliff view, but have received no replies as yet.
