Don't think anyone now records on to video tape anymore from the TV?
Our hdd is, I guess, solid state, but it does make the occasional clunking noise when starting up, so maybe not?
However, when talking of somethings that's been recorded, I will invariably say "Oh. we've got that on tape", when of course, it isn't.
Is it me?  ::)

I still have my VCR sitting on the top shelf of a cupboard in case I would like to watch one of the five remaining tapes I have. I must get round to digitising those tapes at some point.

I still have a DVD player/recorder sitting under the telly. It has long been unplugged with a pile of DVD's that have mostly only been watched once. It was bought to replace the VCR when we still had 5 channels. Once the digital switchover came it was a bit of a chore to have to set two timers to record one programme. One on the DVD recorder and another on the Freeview box.

So I got a PVR. I am fortunate to have a rare model that allows me to record from Freeview and transfer that to a USB stick which I then further transfer to my tablet to watch on the way home from work / day out. I could download from the iPlayer or similar but not every programme or channel is available.

Modern day tellys will not allow you to copy onto an SD card and put the programme on your computer
So I have to look after my telly

Just wish I could locate another DRM fre telly.

My PVR is an Icecrypt T2400 which I got from Tesco about 6 or 7 years ago. It's a device with a hard drive that can record up to 2 programmes at once whilst playing back another. It allows me to transfer most SD programmes to a USB stick but not HD ones. I deliberately went for this model because of that feature. At the time there didn't seem to be any other PVR's like it. So yes, I will be looking after it. I have already had to replace two capacitors.

All the old PVRs I have come accross, have hard drives in them, most I scapped, (in the WEEE bin)  even though still working, not been to that work since March, TV and washing machine installs etc, I miss more the the trains, did I say that!
