I just watched it on the iPlayer. The sign was a fairly plain Beware of Trains cast iron one (clearly genuine). Maybe I'm a bit squeamish but I didn't like the format - presenter pressures the seller to give big discount, then pressures the person he's selling it to to pay a hefty premium. Title: Re: Rail programmes FRIDAY 8th May Post by: RichardB on May 08, 2020, 16:05:22 On the upside for the seller, if he is a regular at Ardingly, a lot more people now know that there is a stall there with various railway bits and bobs. I didn't think the price he was asking for the sign was bad (£115) and indeed the presenter managed to sell it for £165.

I think you've hit on a feeling I get with so many of the antique shows - where "A" gets something for a good price from "B" then goes on to sell to "C" and feels victory if they make a big profit. Feel a bit sorry for "B" being 'cheated' out of something for less than it's worth, or 'C' being ripped off by paying too much. Mind you these shows are also artificial - the publicity you get for your shop or stall is ££££ more valuable than the money on the day. So a dealer 'B' will let something go after a 'haggle' with the cameras rolling in a way he would not do if there was no cameras there.
