GWR have released a cab ride video of the first SuperFast service to leave Temple Meads for London back in December (calling only at Parkway).

You pass my house at around 1:08:45 but you can't see it too many trees!

Just after going through Taplow.

Far better quality than the route learning videos staff get!  :-\

Also, it shows how tediously slow the exit from Temple Meads is over Bristol East Junction due to speed restrictions.  Does anyone know whether linespeeds are to be raised as part of the Bristol East Junction remodelling?

Had a watch of this, several interesting bits, like seeing it rush through Reading.

From just east of there, it was distinctly un-superfast and seemed to run up against ambers and double-ambers several times between there and Paddington.

That was really good although I didn't get any real sensation of the speed.
As for sighting signals, forget it, although I guess if I drove it every day (or did route learning) I would know which signal was which.

LNER have done something similiar for KX to Leeds, although it is speeded up as it only takes 11 minutes and has irritating musak ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNF-RWky05w (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNF-RWky05w)

Tut, Tut. The railway doesn't do 'AMBERS'.  They are 'YELLOW' and 'DOUBLE YELLOW'...... ::) ;D

I once stumbled across a You Tube cab ride video on the news feed on my smartphone while on the way home by train which I watched. The motion of the train gave it quite a feeling of authenticity. I am not sure though that wanting to get a better experience of a cab ride video is currently regarded as a valid reason to travel............... ;D

Cued it up last night in bed. I fell asleep somewhere between Didcot and Reading.

Fortunately the driver didn’t.  ;)  It’s not the most exciting route to drive I can vouch for!  Especially Bristol Parkway to Swindon which is largely featureless other than the tunnel.

It's been documented elsewhere on the forum that I rarely fall asleep on train journeys.* Watching TV etc is more likely to send me to Nod.

*That documented journey was when I left Taunton on a CrossCountry service, one evening a few years back, aiming for Bristol TM. My aim was well off, impaired by an evenings conviviality, and I hit Birmingham New St. Had to stay the night in Brum.

Ok, ok, sorry, I'm not a railway person. I do know what they mean though  :)
