Title: On LIne Departure Board Improvements
Post by: John R on April 02, 2008, 00:03:17
Anyone else noticed that the OLDB now show platforms (at least at main stations). It's nice to see that whoever runs this is still looking to enhance and improve the service offered. (Personally I think the facility of checking how your train is running is the biggest single passenger improvement there has been that doesn't involve the trains and track themselves. It's cut down my waiting time enormously.)

Now all we need to know is how many coaches will form each service to work out whether our train is going to be overcrowded or not.

That would be useful.

Also tell us whether (with HSTs) the train is the wrong way around! This will speed up boarding.

The online departure boards have been able to show platforms for a while at certain stations, they've obviously updated the software since as the stations that platforms were shown at have data taken from the PIS as opposed to TRUST.

It's all recently been nicely upgraded. Platforms for Paddington still don't seem to show :p

This new addition seems to have added a (personally) unwanted 'feature' in that all trains are now shown as 'On Time' even before they have started their journey. They used to say 'No Report'. For casual travellers this may add security that the train will be running, but for seasoned pro's this is meaningless as until the train has actually started you have no idea if it will be 'On Time' or not.

It does that now due to the way it recognises compulsory timing points, if you look at a train earlier in the journey it handles it differently to later in the journey...

I've now noticed the Live Departure boards show platform numbers at FGW stations too. Interestingly though it only seems to be showing on the stations FGW owned before they took over the rest.
