Title: Commuting by bicycle; injury and health
Post by: CyclingSid on March 18, 2020, 08:54:20
A recent paper in The BMJ https://www.bmj.com/content/368/bmj.m336 (https://www.bmj.com/content/368/bmj.m336) looks at hospital admissions for injury of cyclists. Unsurprisingly the more you commute by bike the more likely you are to be admitted to hospital with an injury. But it also points out, in the visual abstract, the benefits of cycling in terms of health; lower cancer diagnoses, lower heart attacks lower deaths etc.

The attached editorial, behind the paywall, raises the issue of suitable infrastructure to encourage more and safer cycling.

Interesting in terms of the recent budget where £27 billion was promised for roads and nothing obvious for cycling infrastructure.
