Great Western Coffee Shop

A lovely week commuting - by bus rather than by train - from a BnB (Bed no breakfast) I was staying in to an office in the middle of the countryside.  Thank goodness for the bus route on the nearby A road from where I could walk to venue. And thank goodness for the kind people there wh gave me a lift back each evening as walking up the lane in the pitch black was not recommended.

The particular local geography and cost of getting a car to the places involved has, I believe, meant that bus services have prospered far more (per "head of population") than in most places, and a large tourist trade in summer helps.  Even in November, pubs and cafes were quite busy in the evening; some closed for sure, but more than enough open and not dead quiet either.

P.S. NOT on the ferry each day - picture taken from bus stop.  Called "joined up transport"  ;D  ... writing / posting this from the ferry as I'm on my way back home this morning.

Were there warning signs for other forum members too?  Bignosemac, broadgage, ….?  (Insert whatever name you choose.)

As a non driver I frequently make trips to the Isle of Wight simply because it is so easy to get around by public transport.

I’ve booked 4 nights over in the IOW through Parkdean, 4 nights accommodation and ferry with car £110 total. I’ve previously had a flying visit so looking forward to some proper time over there.

I looked up the local transport and don’t intend moving the car once we arrive

Also worth noting that Southern Vectis will be running on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

That seems quite remarkable. Do any other bus companies in the UK offer services on Christmas Day?

Always impressed by Southern Vectis. I am amazed how their drivers haul double-deckers round the country lanes, and the abysmal parking in the back streets of Ryde.

Always enjoy a trip to IoW, and very reasonably priced when you buy a combined train/ferry/hovercraft ticket with a rail card.

The approach to West Cowes Jetfoil terminal  is also impressive, how do manage to get a bus through that narrow entrance?

In general do agree that IOW is a great day out without the car.
