Title: Best and worst train company. And how not to be the best report
Post by: grahame on January 24, 2019, 22:00:27
Best and worst train company survey from Which? - the consumer's association, from a customer survey.

https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/trains/article/best-and-worst-uk-train-companies/best-and-worst-uk-train-companies#resultssurvey

I THINK it's just published in the last day or two, but sadly the Consumer's Association only get 3 stars out of 5 from me as nowhere can I spot a publication or revised data on, so I don't know how old it is.   A reference to 2018 data within the text suggests it might be quite recent but for goodness sake, Which?, date your articles!

Directly underneath the ratings;

"In October and November 2018, 10,000 members of the public completed an online survey about their experiences of travelling with UK train operators. 3,994 of these responses were commuters...……"

47% for GWR - pretty dreadful all things considered - were the Famous Five amongst those polled?

Thank you ... printed out as a .pdf, that's halfway down page 4 of 10.  Good to know; still would have liked a date easier to find.

I hope that 4 of the five were at school. Mind you, they may travel by train to school ... an excellent way of picking you rail knowledge and habits from an early age.

I'd have expected a lot worse than 47% given how disappointing a year it's been.  Still, some positive signs over the last couple of months that things are finally on the up.

To be fair, who wouldn't want to move to God's own county given the chance? 🙂

More seriously however, it's an illustration of how the appalling performance of our railways impacts people's lives in so many ways.

Amazed that Hull Trains are in joint third given the frequency with which their service has imploded in 180-related incidents.

I'm not entirely sure of the point of Which doing this, though. When they rate different vacuum cleaners then you can make a decision which one to buy. But I'm not convinced that I can choose to use Island Line to get from Charlbury to Oxford.

True - but it can influence your decision on whether to get into the car or not.

It was a joke, referring to Richard's post above.

Sorry for not putting a smiley after my comment

It must be bad if it's quicker to get to work in Preston from Tiverton Parkway than from Blackpool North. (It's always been a close thing from Blackpool South, especially if you have to wait at Kirkham and Wesham).
