Mr Pratchett was visiting Bristol to address the Alzheimer's Research Trust annual conference at the Watershed - and pledged to donate about ^500,000 towards its work. Mr Pratchett has a rare form of the disease called posterior cortical atrophy, in which areas at the back of the brain begin to shrink and shrivel.
