Whilst there are indeed direct train services from Chippenham to Southampton 10 times a week (scheduled at 06:26 and 19:03 on Mondays to Fridays), there are as yet no direct trains back - those having been withdrawn some 15 years ago. I wondered if he was too keen, but they did head off in a taxi. "Where too" ... "nearest bar". Pity the poor cabby for such a tiny fare! The station is surrounded by car parks on all sides and the only adjacent building is the workplace that always used to display a huge UKIP banner before the referendum. ???
