I don^t know what to say, I^m stunned^.

Yesterday the local Gazette rang and asked me to comment on FGW^s plans to introduce a Turn Back Facility at Yate, this was the first I had heard of it.

From the sounds of things, they are planning to build a 3rd platform removing a section of the existing car park and they will increase the number of trains that come through, currently the nearest turn back station is Gloucester.

They plan to re-introduce the Yate to Weston line and the Yate to Bristol service will be increased to twice an hour.

They haven^t given a go live date, but they mentioned 2010 as a projected date, so I^m not expecting miracles overnight, but it^s progress

I'm still waiting for movement on the Worle Jn to Weston Milton improvement which I thought was confirmed last year but seems to have gone very quiet.

There is no need to build any new infrastucture at Yate for reversals as illustrated here:

Indeed, it's not even shown in Quail.

Also, Liam, the move you show is not a permitted move. It requires a shunt move from Up Charfield Yate Home signal onto the shunt Down Charfield - which is not permissable.

That is also not a permitted move as a direct move through the reverse Charfield inflex as shown in Stovolds 6th page 92 sector 3 is in knip currently.

Therefore, Bank.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.

Which is why all this is a project with a 2010 end date ;)

It is common knowledge to all the crews who currently sign Bristol Parkway that the current service is an interim measure until signalling work is undertaken at Yate.

Quote from: Adrian Booth (FGW)
Adrian Booth, spokesman for First Great Western, said it was holding talks with Network Rail and the planning authority, South Gloucestershire Council, in an attempt to win consent for the scheme.

He said: "We are asking the local council to prepare a business case to support the idea.

"The facility could double the frequency of train services between Yate and Bristol to half-hourly. However, it is still early days and no definite decisions have been made yet."

Quote from: Keith Walton (Severnside Community Rail Partnership)
"This is one of the schemes aimed at improving train services we have been pushing for.

"The proposal could bring Yate back into line with other stations around Bristol that provide half-hourly services to the city. Some rail users will also be pleased to see the Yate to Weston-super-Mare service again. And if work did go ahead I would hope improvements to the station could also be made."

Quote from: Dave Youell (MTLS)
"There would be no more complaints from me if they introduced a half-hourly service.

"It could solve overcrowding and timetable problems."
