Title: M4 to close for electrification work Post by: martyjon on October 28, 2017, 19:59:03 Haven't seen this on this forum or any other source so ;-
Overnight closures of M4 motorway. To carry out installation of railway electrification equipment on the blue railway bridge over the M4 at Hambrook for safety reasons the M4 motorway needs to be closed whilst Network Rail carry out the necessary work. To limit disruption the works will be carried out overnight as follows ;- •Fri 3 Nov 11pm - Sat 4 Nov 7am •Sat 4 Nov 9pm - Sun 5 Nov 8am •Sun 5 Nov 10pm - Mon 6 Nov 5am •Fri 10 Nov 11pm - Sat 11 Nov 7am •Sat 11 Nov 9pm - Sun 12 Nov 8am •Sun 12 Nov 10pm - Mon 13 Nov 5am Whilst the closures are in effect :- Eastbound traffic will be directed off the M4 at the Almondsbury Interchange (Junction 20) onto the M5 to leave the Motorway Network at Junction 16 of the M5 and divert via the A38 to Filton and then the A4174 to Hambrook to rejoin the Motorway Network at Junction 1 of the M32 and then travel North to the Hambrook Interchange (M4 Junction 19) where traffic will rejoin the M4 eastbound. Traffic from the North on the M5 needing to travel East on the M4 should continue South on the M5, leave the Motorway Network at Junction 16 of the M5 and divert via the A38 to Filton and then via the A4174 to Hambrook to rejoin the Motorway Network at Junction 1 of the M32 and then travel North to the Hambrook Interchange (M4 Junction 19) to will rejoin the M4 eastbound. Westbound traffic will be directed off the M4 at the Hambrook Interchange with the M32 (Junction 19) to leave the Motorway Network at Junction 1 of the M32 and divert via the A4174 to Filton and then via the A38 to rejoin the Motorway Network at Junction 16 of the M5 and then travel either via the M5 to the Almondsbury Interchange where traffic can rejoin the M4 westbound or continue northwards on the M5. Southbound traffic will rejoin the motorway at Junction 16 and continue South. Title: Re: M4 to close for electrification work Post by: martyjon on October 31, 2017, 12:12:23 Further to my initial post on this tread I have now been told that Bristol Parkway station will also be closed on the two weekends stated in that initial post and also the following weekend, 17th, 18th and 19th of November. Also to add to the mix there will also be two big rugby events in Cardiff versus Australia and Geogia during these periods of closure with one of the fixtures due to end after 22.00 and NO trains back to Bristol or London on that particular night.
Also finally on this post as its related to Bristol Parkway, the new fourth platform at the station is to open in time for Christmas, the date hasn't been finalised yet but is pencilled in for either December 23rd or 24th Title: Re: M4 to close for electrification work Post by: chrisr_75 on October 31, 2017, 12:50:16 Further to my initial post on this tread I have now been told that Bristol Parkway station will also be closed on the two weekends stated in that initial post and also the following weekend, 17th, 18th and 19th of November. Probably attract a few Aussies from London, but likely little other significant travel from outside the region. Wales vs Georgia (18th Nov) kicks off at 14:30 and fairly unlikely to even sell out the Principality Stadium. Vast majority of spectators will likely be travelling in from South Wales region for this one. Title: Re: M4 to close for electrification work Post by: chrisr_75 on October 31, 2017, 15:33:37 The boxing last weekend I know finished late. After 23:00 I think.
Rugby rarely does though, not even the Friday evening matches came that close to 22:00 - the WRU have refused to host those again, partly down to transport issues. I would imagine the owners of surrounding restaurants and bars would be rather less than happy with a finish as close to closing time as 22:00...!
