Title: Weekday TransWilts Timetable from 10th to 14th July
Post by: grahame on July 06, 2017, 07:15:10
During the week of 10th to 14th July, trains will be replaced by road transport between Chippenham and Swindon.   Here is the modified timetable:

I have had various inputs / comments and will follow up below.

The is disappointment that no amended timetable notices showing timings from Trowbridge to Swindon are on display there, with advise being that there are signs at Chippenham Station telling you what time the buses will be leaving once you get to Chippenham ("Not much good for me planning my commute" says my correspondent).

Not sure about the reverse direction - logic would be that you have to get to Chippenham before you find a display of onward train times to Trowbridge and Westbury.  And with the service remaining at its usual infrequent level, that could mean as LONG wait or a need to excess to go via Bath Spa.

I'm not a diversion planner, but I note that there's a significant Chippenham to Reading and London commuter flow.  I wonder why the TransWilts isn't running hourly to take passengers from Chippenham and connect into the hourly Bristol to London via Bath Spa service that will be running, connection at Trowbridge.

Also questioning why one of the TransWilts trains is skipping Melksham.  We are developing a clientele from Swindon into Melksham using the 06:12 who would love to catch the 06:20 bus next week ... small problem being the connecting train isn't stopping.   They have to get at 05:47 bus instead; this rather adds insult to injury, as the ideal train for many of them would be at around 07:12 from Swindon ...

Nice that you've bothered to produce a revised timetable; something most TOCs have stopped doing at times of major engineering work  :(
