Title: M3/M4 Closures
Post by: Timmer on May 05, 2017, 09:00:13
Had an email from GWR last night regarding the M4 being closed the first three weekends of May which is incorrect as owing to the M3 being closed this weekend the M4 is OPEN. Should they be sending emails out like this that are incorrect? I think they should email again correcting this.

Highways England announced on April 27th that the M4 will now be open:

UPDATE 2: GWR have sent out an updated version of the email they sent yesterday to say the work isn't taking place this weekend. So well done to them for being honest and going to the expense of sending a revised email.

Well done GWR, I salute you.

A few years ago there was a heated discussion here criticising/defending FGW (as it then was) for not exploiting the marketing opportunity presented by the closure for repairs of the M4 elevated section in west London.   Arguments ranged from “Richard Branson would have had banners over the M4” to “what’s the point, FGW’s trains are too busy already”.

Anyway, I think this is an excellent marketing initiative by GWR, well done to them.

.....probably best that they check it's accurate before sending it out though?  ::)

Travelling by National Express during the M4 closures? Then you can travel by train (GWR only) for free!
