Title: New style platform departure screens
Post by: bobm on March 19, 2017, 07:39:19
Over the last few months there has been a new style of CIS at Didcot Parkway.

The scrolling display indicated the train was in reverse formation

This one is the first I have seen which indicates whether 1st class on a turbo is at the front or rear of the train.

Sadly the 1st Class location is often at the other end than that listed and often not available at all - but I've never seen a display without 1st class apparently being available somewhere!  Nice idea that needs some tweaks before widespread implementation.  I'm also not convinced of white as I don't think it works as well as the traditional orange.

I noticed a few weeks ago that the main departure boards at Kings X have these - it seemed for the longer distance services - basically to show where there are unreserved seats on the HST's and IC225's.

It would help at Didcot if a direction of travel / front of train was marked. It could go either way on those screens!

In the first picture what does the symbol for coach L signify?

It is a trick of the camera.  It changes between 1st and the wheelchair symbol and the exposure caught it as it did so - note also the last digit of the clock.

Coach K also alternates between 1st and the buffet teacup symbol.
