Title: Another where was I?
Post by: Bmblbzzz on December 19, 2016, 18:25:08
I didn't know I was going here, but when I saw it, I thought it would be worth a photo. Not obscure enough for the well-travelled observant eyes of this forum, I'm sure, but here it is:

No trains were harmed in the making of this photograph.

I knew it would be too easy for you lot! Was surprised (cos I hadn't been paying attention to where we were going) to find myself going past it on Saturday.

Timbuctou. Or possibly New York City, either would do.

Yes, we got there about 3pm and listened to the carols from the church in the otherwise deserted village as the sun sank on a misty Plain. Quite eerie.

Thanks for posting that link CfN.  I'm planning to visit later this year.  I found one quote on the website to be the most telling of all:
Quote
The blacksmith, Albert Nash, is said to have died of a broken heart.. “When the time came to evacuate the village they found him slumped over his anvil, crying like a child,” a local historian recalled. “Within a month he was dead.”, he is buried at the village church.
