Title: Something a bit different ... Post by: grahame on November 13, 2016, 20:48:48 Would anyone be brave enough to take a guess at ALL of these ... then others chip in and agree or disagree? Bit of an experiment ... unless it gets silly I'll jump in tomorrow some time ... with confirmations if you're pretty sure between you by then

I can name one - and it isn't Taunton. ;) :D ;D Title: Re: Something a bit different ... Post by: Chris from Nailsea on November 13, 2016, 21:51:24 Hmmmmmm ...
On second thoughts, I can name two - and one of them is Taunton. ::) :o :-[ Title: Re: Something a bit different ... Post by: ellendune on November 13, 2016, 21:54:05 Hmmmmmm ... 2. Oxford 3. Bristol Temple Meads 4. Taunton 5. Cambridge 6. Salisbury 7. London Liverpool Street 8. Germany 9. The Netherlands 10. Farnborough Main Title: Re: Something a bit different ... Post by: johnneyw on November 13, 2016, 23:37:20 9 is Hoek Van Holland.
Title: Re: Something a bit different ... Post by: stuving on November 14, 2016, 01:16:44 I'll take a guess that 8 is Osnabrück Hbf - the upper station; is that the Haupthauptbahnhof?
(And, at the risk of being thought pedantic, 9 is Hoek Van Holland Haven.) Title: Re: Something a bit different ... Post by: plymothian on November 14, 2016, 01:29:56 7 - London Victoria.

Post by: grahame on November 14, 2016, 07:19:42 Huge thank you to bignosemac for starting us off with a superb set of good answers ... and admiration for everyone else's knowledge. Almost everywhere has been correctly identified already ...
Title: Re: Something a bit different ... Post by: stuving on November 14, 2016, 10:08:32 And I'd vote that it is Victoria. The one that looks unconvincing to me is no. Title: Re: Something a bit different ... Post by: SandTEngineer on November 14, 2016, 10:16:10 5 is somewhere on the GE Main Line between Stratford and Shenfield as thats pre-MK1 OLE, but I have no idea exactly where..... ::) :P
Title: Re: Something a bit different ... Post by: JayMac on November 14, 2016, 10:17:25 I now concur that 7 is London Victoria.
Title: Re: Something a bit different ... Post by: eightf48544 on November 14, 2016, 10:21:21 I'd add my vote for 7 being Victoria.
Osnabruck HBf is both high and low level. In the sixties the through trains from Hook of Holland to used to take the link from the low level to high and swap locos for an 01 10 pacific for the run to Hamburg. Real steam action and on a free pass! For 9 WCML around Milton Keynes. Although agree could be GEML but seems to countrified, Title: Re: Something a bit different ... Post by: stuving on November 14, 2016, 10:43:57 5 is somewhere on the GE Main Line between Stratford and Shenfield as thats pre-MK1 OLE, but I have no idea exactly where..... ::) :P Apart from that being hardly rural, I thought it was all tarted up by Furrer+Frey. Did they miss some bits? Title: Re: Something a bit different ... Aware graham used a Harwich ferry recently which goes to the Hook which further cemented my belief it's the Hook
Title: Re: Something a bit different ... Post by: grahame on November 14, 2016, 12:17:06 You're looking pretty much convinced beyond reasonable doubt on most of the pictures ... however there's one that still at the 'speculation' level. Would it help you to have another picture taken on the same day's round trip from Melksham, last month, at a different place?

Would it help you to have another picture taken on the same day's round trip from Melksham, last month, at a different place? I guess that's Southport, given that you reported going there. But no, not really. PS: For avoidance of doubt, I meant no, it doesn't help. Title: Re: Something a bit different ... Post by: oxviem on November 14, 2016, 13:25:28 Huddersfield perchance?
Title: Re: Something a bit different ... Post by: grahame on November 16, 2016, 17:08:56 1. Glasgow Central
2. Oxford 3. Bristol Temple Meads 4. Taunton 5. Norton Bridge (from flyover to West Coast main line) 6. Salisbury 7. London Victoria 8. Osnabrocke 9. Hoek van Hollande Haven 10. Farnborough Main And - yes - the bonus clue was Uddersfield. Well done everyone - no great surprises in the answers above as you had pretty well deduced everything except 5, and you all knew you were guessing on that one! Title: Re: Something a bit different ... Post by: JayMac on November 16, 2016, 17:37:01 Salisbury was a fluke. I'd all but convinced myself it wasn't. Attempted cross referencing with other pictures and I couldn't find any of Salisbury with arched windows and door ways. So, for want of another guess, I plumped for Salisbury.
Title: Re: Something a bit different ... Post by: Chris from Nailsea on November 16, 2016, 17:42:25 Try this one - it's in the public domain:

Post by: eightf48544 on November 17, 2016, 11:40:23 I did get WCML for 5 so within 400 miles!
