Title: Bath Spa engineering works - Easter 2017 (8 to 23 April)
Post by: grahame on October 18, 2016, 07:47:52
At Easter, 2017, significant engineering works at and around Bath Spa Station will result in disruption (TPOD / Temporary Period od Disruption) - known as TPOD3.

From Wessex Railway Walks (http://www.wessexrailwaywalks.org.uk)

Quote
Temporary Period of Disruption - Bath Spa station is due to be clossed for a period of 3 (three) weeks in April 2017- again further details to follow - this will affect the walking season in 2017 - again details to follow - Provisonal dates are Sunday 9th April 2017 to Sun 23rd April 2017

Much more detail next month (November 2016) ... but early indications are that there will be considerable bus operations rather than trains in and around Bath, and I would expect the TransWilts to be rather busy with diversions.

Details 'from the horse's mouth' will be available early November ... there might be weekend possessions too which effect walking groups especially ...

This might have changed as it's quite old information, but I was told of a 17-day blockade between Bath and Bristol to complete track lowering to allow electrification to take place and also slueing the track and widening the platforms at Bath Spa for the same purpose.  One platform to remain open at Bath throughout to terminate trains at.

At the same time, stage 4 of the Bristol Resignalling Scheme would see a four day blockade from Bath to Yatton & Filton (including Bristol Temple Meads).

That was the impression I was under that like last April one platform would always be available for services East of Bath to operate as they did this year with RRP buses operating between Bath and Bristol.

Hi alll,

Came across this on GWR's website this afternoon. Works to take place at Bath from 8th to 23rd April this year meaning platform closures in the week (one platforma t a time) and line closures at weekends.

Schedule update:

Quote
Modernisation of the Great Western Railway continues throughout 2017. From 8-23 April the platforms at Bath Spa are being widened in readiness for our new fleet of trains. On the weekends of 27-29 May and 10/11 June, and then again from 8-16 July train services in the Swindon and Chippenham areas will be amended, with buses operating on some routes.

There will be some changes to the timetable with some routes having a reduced service however, most journey times will remain the same.
   • Monday 10 April to Thursday 13 April: All trains will depart from Platform 2
   • Tuesday 18 April to Friday 21 April: All trains will depart from Platform 1
On the weekends of 8 to 9 April, 14 to 17 April (Good Friday to Easter Monday) and 22 to 23 April, there will be no trains through Bath Spa station. Trains may be diverted and replacement buses will be used on some routes.
