2. Katoomba Scenic Railway, Scenic World, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia

The worlds steepest railway apparently. It's on my bucket list.

After my recently posted pictures of Babbacombe Cliff Railway I did some online reading about funicular railway facts and figures. One I read about was the Katoomba Scenic Railway.

Pure coincidence that Bob_Blakey posted a picture of it so soon after I'd read up on it.  ;D

2. Correct, BNM...and I would very strongly suggest that anybody with an interest in the natural world adds the Blue Mountains to their 'bucket list' forthwith; the scenery is breathtaking - I would describe it as a miniaturised version of the Grand Canyon with trees.

4. Kuranda, Queensland, Australia.

Another tourist absolute 'Must do' as a day trip from Cairns, but if you had a few days, I would recommend taking the Savannahlander train from Cairns through Kuranda and onwards into the Interior to Forsayth - a truly 'quaint' rail experience.

4. Also correct, PW. We used the train outbound and returned on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway.

1.  From memory and without recourse to the good old interwebby thing, this looks like Sydney Central station ?

1. It looks like Sydney Central because it is.

No 3 is a little more tricky  ???

Complete and utter guesswork now. You have been to Melbourne, Sydney and Cairns. The line appears to be OHE, which restricts it to a small part of the eastern corridor of Oz. I will plump for Roma Street Station, Brisbane.

3. Correct again PW, it is indeed Brisbane Roma Street. As part of our itinerary we used the NSW TrainLink Sydney Central 1441 > Brisbane Roma Street 0453 1st class sleeper and jolly good it was too; the estuarine scenery along the Hawkesbury River, Mullet Creek & Brisbane Water as far north as Gosford was superb - very reminiscent of the Devon & Cornwall drowned river valleys.
While in Brisbane we also used the train to Nerang and associated Gold Coast bus link for a day out at Surfer's Paradise.
