Title: New Design Tickets
Post by: Surrey 455 on June 29, 2016, 09:50:06
Yesterday I made two train journeys and received two very different looking tickets. The first one from Feltham to Egham was paid for on the GWR mobile app and collected from a prepaid ticket collection machine at Clapham Junction.
The second from Slough to West Drayton was bought at a Slough Station ticket machine. The first one is very easy to read, the second not so even though both are the new design. it looks like just tinkering with the font can make all the difference, something that may not be possible to alter on existing machines.

The second looks like it came from a Scheidt & Bachmann Ticket XPress (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scheidt_%26_Bachmann_Ticket_XPress).  The font has definitely improved recently, as previously characters and lines were overlapping.

Neither passengers nor staff seem to like the new design.  Tickets look like receipts and it is slower to determine the ticket validity.

Oddly, non-compulsory reservations are still printed in the old style.  This means you can end up with a new style ticket, but old style reservation (which looks more like it should be the ticket).

And, of course, some machines are still printing in the old format.

Yet more confusion caused by an apparent simplication.

The second ticket came from an older machine. Its the type of machine that seems to be standard at most GWR & SWT stations.
