These include a more frequent service linking Portishead with Bristol, including serving the new Ashlands housing developments in the town. In Weston-super-Mare a later service will operate to Cribbs Causeway via Clevedon and Portishead on Fridays and Saturdays. The Sunday and bank holiday service between Sand Bay and Weston will now be operated all year round on a commercial basis by First Bus. A total of 16 bus operators submitted bids to run services - the highest number ever received by the council. Elfan Ap Rees, executive member responsible for transport, said: Quote "For the first time in my memory we had competition on all the routes. "This has meant we have been able to withstand pressure for price increases and gain service improvements."
