Entries from TransWilts are in the post to ACoRP.   These are national awards and there are lots and lots (and lots) of wonderful people out there .... there are lots of wonderful people on the TransWilts too, so I would be disappointed if we don't get a shortlisting or two - but that would be a good result.

The awards are excellent publicity, a good checkpoint to review what we've been doing, and a way of saying a big "thank you" to people who have put in effort as volunteers or beyond the call of duty in professional roles.

Yes - it probably should.   You know how bad my smelling is though!

There was an incredible amount of work put into the projects submitted ... and indeed quite a lot in writing them up.   One of the intents of all this shouting nationally is to ensure we don't slip below the radar as happened to the line in the mid noughty-s.  Second intent is to say "thank you" and gain some recognition for the dozens of people who have helped.   Third intent to provide us with an opportunity as we write up our activities to self-assess against set criteria.

From the Great Western Railway press release:

Quote
Great Western Railway partners shortlisted in all but one category at top community rail awards

Great Western Railway and its community rail partners have been shortlisted in 13 categories out of 14 at the ACoRP Community Rail Awards 2016; with a total of 23 entries shortlisted.

To be hosted at the Southport Conference Centre on 29 September, the shortlisting recognises the role community rail plays in maintaining and improving the railway network.

This year’s awards see every community rail partnership across the Great Western network shortlisted for an award including: the Devon and Cornwall Community Rail Partnership; the Severnside Community Rail Partnership; the TransWilts Community Rail Partnership; the Heart of Wessex Community Rail Partnership and Three Rivers Community Rail Partnership.

Friends of Copplestone Station and Ashchurch Tewkesbury District Rail Promotion Group have also had entries shortlisted.

GWR Managing Director Mark Hopwood said: “Throughout the Great Western Railway network community rail groups play a leading role, adding value to projects designed to improve services and make stations safer, friendlier and greener. I am delighted all of our community rail partnerships have been shortlisted and are in contention to win an ACoRP Award."

From the Daily Mail (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3792126/Southern-Rail-shortlisted-passenger-award-despite-months-misery-commuters-crippling-union-dispute.html)

Quote
Southern Rail is shortlisted for a passenger award despite months of misery for commuters and a crippling union dispute

The rail company that has brought months of misery to commuters has been shortlisted for three 'passengers matter' awards. Southern is still in the middle of a crippling union dispute which has seen up to a third of trains a day cancelled. The company is embroiled in the long-running disagreement with the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) over plans to change the role of guards on its trains.

But, the Association of Community Rail (ACORP) Awards says it will celebrate the operator's hard work and community dedication, as finalists in three categories which includes 'Passengers Matter'. Southern Railway is also up for gongs for 'Involving Young People' and 'Involving Diverse Groups'.
