Title: Code Number Required - Highbridge to BPW +Bus Single
Post by: mada on February 11, 2008, 18:57:53
I'm hoping one of the FGW guards can help me out. This morning the female conductor didn't know the code for a Highbridge to Bristol Parkway Plus Bus Single. She stated that guards are given pages and pages of codes for tickets which aren't on the system and generally can't memorise them. Can you possibly post the code so I can store it on my phone in case I get her again?

Sounds like a plague of lazy TMs. All tickets should really be availble on the machine, i've been refused a Heart of Wessex once as the TM "doesn't know how to find it on the machine"

Staff Training!!!

Great - I was looking for the plus bus code in Avantix!

Bristol Parkway is one of those plusbus ones where you have to issue that separately IIRC, if that helps.

No worries. This morning she let me get off and buy it at WSM (I change onto the 8:30 Voyager). I have a YP railcard so it's ^8 whether I have the plus bus or not!

Staff do get briefings on these types of things put in their pigeon holes but they never take any notice! I heard one guard the other day who was working a 150/1 say "this is one of those moments when I wish i'd read all that sh1t that they put in my pigeon hole", he'd forgot to take his BR1 key with him and got locked in the train!

Why don't FGW just key all routes onto the ticket machines?

You can sell any ticket from Avantix machines, including a Golf Street to Barry Links single ... ;D

It's more guards don't know how to issue them - on SWT half the staff don't know how to issue rovers properly and I have to show them!!

There are quite a few fares missing from AVANTIX, but I think this is down to Atos origin, the people who provide the machines and softwear, unless I can be corrected on this??

The SWT machines have all the fares I've put them to the test with (and trust me, that's a lot)...

It may be a sync problem when they aren't allowed to sync on the base stations for long enough?

AVB 2 is far superior to AVB 1, much quicker and doesn't make stupid clicking noises when you tap the screen!

Just wait until you start getting touch sensitivity failures... that click will become mighty helpful!

Had AVB2 for over a year now, never had any problems, apart from the chip and pin pads that never ever work!

... especially for transactions of less than a pound, apparently?   ;)

Seriously, vacman: all credit to on-board staff for selling tickets efficiently - our platform machines at Nailsea are often OOU due to rain, and last week our guard actually phoned ahead to BTM to warn them they'd have a rush on to sell tickets at the barriers there, as he'd exhausted his two rolls of tickets on board already.

I agree - but it's so fast you can't count the change before the ticket comes out!

Vacman/gaf71 - have you ever noticed you get the 1`stop hoppers, who pay a ^1 fare with a ^20 note!

Issue a credit note to get your change at the nearest staffed station, worked a treat in BR days.

They are the ones who i normally get rid of all my change on! And I'm not talking pound coins! Saves me counting it at the end of a shift when I'm rushing to go home, and the look on their face is priceless when they realise what you are doing, and they suddenly find a pound coin! Which I refuse and tell them i have their change sorted now! :D
