The Queen trolled some tourists and we love her for it

Her Majesty is known around the world, fully A List in the hierarchy of monarchs.

She must have a walk-in wardrobe stuffed with hats and matching pastel coats, along with strings of pearls and brooches to go along.

But would you recognise her in a granny mac and headscarf?

Queen Elizabeth is said to have once remarked that she couldn^t wear beige as if she did, nobody would know who she was. There might be some truth that that theory, as one of her former protection officers revealed while giving a talk.

Richard Griffin, who worked protecting the royals for years, told a rather charming story about walking with her at Balmoral, her summer residence, the Times reported.

She was wearing everyday clothes ^ tweeds and a scarf, he said. So when a group of American tourists stopped for a chat, they had no idea.

When one of them asked: ^Do you live around here?^, she went along with it, saying that she had a house nearby.

They asked if she had ever met the queen. Truthfully, she replied: ^No, but he has^, gesturing to her protection officer.

Queen Victoria bought Balmoral Castle and passed it down the generations.

The grounds are open from May to July each year.

So if you go there and notice a stately looking lady in a long beige coat and glasses, don^t be fooled.

No republican head of state of these isles has ever lost their head. Can't say the same for a monarch.  ;)

If I recall correctly, Charles II had Cromwell beheaded post mortem for the act of topping his dad.

  Actually you couldn't be more wrong...The only Republican Head of State we've ever had ended up with his head exhibited on a spike above Westminster Hall........best look for a shirt with a steel collar BNM! 😉

Evelyn Beatrice Hall (28 September 1868 ^ 13 April 1956), who wrote under the pseudonym S. G. Tallentyre, was an English writer best known for her biography of Voltaire entitled The Life of Voltaire, first published in 1903. She also wrote The Friends of Voltaire, which she completed in 1906.
In The Friends of Voltaire, Hall wrote the phrase: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" (which is often misattributed to Voltaire himself) as an illustration of Voltaire's beliefs. Hall's quotation is often cited to describe the principle of freedom of speech.

Actually I couldn't be more right. I said head of state. Oliver Cromwell was no longer head of state when he was exhumed and interfered with. Plus Oliver Cromwell was not our only republican head of state. His son Richard Cromwell was Lord Protector following Oliver's death. He wasn't beheaded, alive or dead. Lived to the grand old age of 85.

I do find it mildly amusing, if a little offensive that, after stating I'm a republican, there should be suggestions I worry about my head remaining on my shoulders.  ::)
