A call has been made for a local train line in Glasgow to be electrified to bring it into line with the rest of the rail network.

The Anniesland to Queen Street North Glasgow Suburban Line has been subject to cancellations and delays for a number of years.

It will be further disrupted with the closure of Queen Street station from later this month and is not included in any current upgrade plans.

Patricia Ferguson, Maryhill and Springburn Labour MSP has called on the Scottish Government to make an early announcement on electrifying the route.

Perhaps I'm out of date or thinking of the wrong line ... but I though the only scheduled passenger trains were headed for the West Highland line.  As a diversion route, sensible ... perhaps with the same logic, Reading to Bath Spa via Pewsey and Trowbridge.

It was reopened to passenger trains in 1993, as far as Maryhill and with the restoration of a short section of track, extended to Anniesland a decade later.

There's been some recent work to enable trains from the line to carry on round the loop and access the low level station at Glasgow Queen St, in order that trains can be diverted there during closure of the High Level station.  These additional trains will be causing the disruption referred to in the article. 

(A bit like cancellation of the TW trains last summer, except that the Bradford North Curve wasn't reinstated in that case.)
