Title: Over-running engineering work Barnstaple line - 09 Nov 15
Post by: bobm on November 09, 2015, 09:08:00
Problems with a ballast train has meant the Barnstaple branch is closed north of Eggesford until about lunchtime after weekend engineering work.

Usual problems finding buses or coaches in the morning rush hour meant there was no road replacement for the 07:00 train from Barnstaple bar a few taxis.

Coaches have been found for the later departures.

Not been a good weekend for this set of works - on Saturday morning one of the rail replacement buses was involved in a crash near Portsmouth Arms.

Not only that but there is a very low speed restriction (5mph!) over the area, which is causing huge delays.

Usually means the track has little or no ballast.

I've been told it is to do with gauging issues through the platform at Portsmouth Arms.  Speed restriction now lifted to 20mph apparently.

My wife has just returned from Crediton, where the delay to her train was attributed to a bridge strike.

A bridge strike?

What are the bridges' demands? What was the ballot turnout?

 :P ;) ;D

And today, following the weekend closure, there have been signalling problems.
More specifically Crediton box cannot clear CN2.

Ah, fond memories of when I was a shop steward! There were only two of us in the building, and I had the casting vote. The management always gave in whenever I threatened to get my member out.
