Title: Station names which seem out of place Post by: grahame on October 23, 2015, 18:10:55 Have you noticed how certain station names seem out of place for their area ...
Bermuda Fatima Central Park Flowery Field Can you identify the town / city / areas for the above? Do you have any other good examples? Title: Re: Station names which seem out of place Post by: Worcester_Passenger on October 23, 2015, 19:10:23 There's a lot of slightly odd names in Lincolnshire and the Fens - just south of Coningsby there's a place called New York. This was the last drop-off point on a school bus at one time, after which the bus ran back empty to the depot - whereupon Stagecoach Lincolnshire could legitimately claim to operate a bus from New York to Boston.

I seem to recall going there once but I can't remember why. I learn something every day. YES - there is one about 125km north of Lisbon. http://lisbon-portugal-guide.com/lisbon-transport/Lisbon-to-Fatima-Transport.html I was thinking of somewhere much closer to home ... I've called there quite a number of times on my travels, and always wondered at the name ... I've called there quite a number of times on my travels, and always wondered at the name ... Dublin? Or closer still? Dublin indeed; I've been to Ireland enough times to consider it "almost home". Title: Re: Station names which seem out of place Post by: PhilWakely on October 24, 2015, 11:30:12 As for Bermuda, are you thinking of Nuneaton?.......
New Bermuda Train Station set to open in just a few weeks (http://www.nuneaton-news.co.uk/New-Bermuda-Train-Station-set-open-just-weeks/story-27544164-detail/story.html) Title: Re: Station names which seem out of place Post by: Thatcham Crossing on October 24, 2015, 11:36:39 Being aviation, and military (as well as rail)-minded I'd like to call out Mount Pleasant Airfield in The Falklands.
Having been there a couple of times it would be hard to think of a more "un"pleasant place, geographically and meteorologically. On West Falkland (admittedly some way from Mount Pleasant) there is a Mount Misery, which would far more appropriate to the location. But I think your news article may have been superseded and it may not open now until next year. http://www.nuneaton-news.co.uk/delays-hit-Bermuda-station/story-28041668-detail/story.html? It would always raise a smile (as would Godley and Broadbottom).
Flowery Field is fairly close to Hyde Park. Title: Re: Station names which seem out of place Post by: grahame on November 24, 2015, 22:12:09 Here is one officially recognised as being out of place and in need of renaming
Quote London tourist board wants train station re-named to Norwood INTERGALACTIC in a bid to attract visitors from Earth and beyond A tourist board has called on a train station to be re-named 'Norwood Intergalactic' in a bid to increase visitors, including aliens. Bosses at the South Norwood Tourist Board (SNTB) - in the borough of Croydon, south London - spoke out after plans were announced to re-name East Croydon station 'Croydon International'. Leader of Croydon Council Tony Newman said last week that the station should ditch its old name after a multi-million pound redevelopment. The only contour line in the vicinity is the zero-metres-above-sea-level one.
