Title: Fire on a train - HWY - 23/10/15
Post by: ChrisB on October 23, 2015, 13:13:36
Just before midday - Mainline trains going via AYS.

Hopefully no one hurt, train evacuated safely.

Anyone able to access more details? Service? Stock number?

HWY = High Wycombe
AYS = Aylesbury

Service involved was 1G25 1045 London Marylebone to Birmingham Snow Hill. Failed at High Wycombe 1109. A fire on a Class 68 locomotive, 68015. All passengers safely evacuated at High Wycombe and transferred onto coaches to Princes Risborough for onward rail travel. Fire extinguished and a rescue loco has recovered the failed train. Normal working resumed around 1300. Some residual delays, diversions and cancellations.

Thanks for the info.

Ok, that's my train home borked as it usually forms the 1815 to Birmingham.

Those locos are barely 6 months or so old. Hope it doesn't mean withdrawal & checking the others, so close to Sunday's start on the Oxford branch.

HWY = High Wycombe
AYS = Aylesbury

They're in the glossary, right?

The vast majority of station codes are not included in the Acronyms/Abbreviations page. That's why I included the full names here. Many readers of the forum wouldn't have a clue what HWY and AYS are.

The glossary would be flooded with over 2500 entries! ... there are ways and means of looking them up, but much better simply to include them at first mention in a post thread so that your readers don't have to scurry off to sort out SPP (Shippea Hill) or ABC (Altnabraec) or BGL or CAU (see - those last two set you scurrying  :D )

Are you blowing your own trumpet with one of those? ;)
