Title: When Graffiti becomes art? Post by: bobm on October 04, 2015, 10:05:30 I have no time for the "tags" that get daubed alongside many of our railway lines and in town and city centres but a recent project in Swindon has shown that in the right circumstances ad-hoc outdoor painting can be very striking.
The council are improving the route of the old canal path which is now a walk/cycleway for people coming into the town from the west and south west. As part of that they have re-rendered one of the bridges and a group of local artists have spent the last few weeks painting a mural based on the town's history - which naturally features a number of railway icons (http://www.mbob.co.uk/rforum/graf1.jpg) (http://www.mbob.co.uk/rforum/graf2.jpg) Also featured is Swindon Viewpoint (http://www.swindonviewpoint.com/about), Britain's first public access tv station and Dr Who! (http://www.mbob.co.uk/rforum/grafbil.jpg) The link? Former Dr Who girl Billie Piper was born in Swindon.
