Title: LTV services strengthened from September
Post by: IndustryInsider on August 27, 2015, 18:19:32
On the 08:26 from Twyford, you will get a seat, but it does get very full on departure from the only stop, Maidenhead. However, I believe its due to be upgraded from 3 to 5 coaches from Spetember 7th.

In the evening, if you want some space to breathe, especially at the front of the train, I would recommend the 17:12 to Henley. The 17:18 fast train to Maidenhead (an Adelante), is dodgy, as is the 17:35. But this is due to become a HST, also from September 7th, so conditions will probably improve considerably.

Here's a list of the other lengthened trains that will be operating from next month, due to two Turbo units being released now that the HST fleet is up to full strength again:

Firstly the HST set's diagram:
  • 1P08, 06:34 Didcot to Paddington (calls Cholsey, Goring, Pangbourne, Tilehurst, Reading and Maidenhead)
  • 1R02, 08:09 Paddington to Reading (calls Slough, Maidenhead, and Twyford)
  • 1P95, 09:15 Reading to Paddington (calls Maidenhead) - NEW TRAIN
  • 1D57, 17:36 Paddington to Oxford (calls Maidenhead, Twyford, Reading, Tilehurst, Pangbourne, Goring, Cholsey, and Didcot)

And the Turbo operated services strengthened:
  • 2O27, 06:06 Reading to Shalford - 3 car vice 2
  • 2P22, 06:25 Banbury to Paddington - 5 car vice 3
  • 2V51, 07:21 Shalford to Reading - 3 car vice 2
  • 1P22, 07:21 Oxford to Paddington - 5 car vice 3
  • 2O31, 08:20 Reading to Shalford - 3 car vice 2
  • 2V55, 09:19 Shalford to Reading - 3 car vice 2
  • 2R51, 16:12 Paddington to Reading - 6 car vice 5
  • 2R53, 16:45 Paddington to Reading - 6 car vice 5
  • 2M56, 17:25 Paddington to Banbury - 5 car vice 4
  • 1N44, 17:42 Paddington to Bourne End - 4 car vice 3
  • 2R69, 18:45 Paddington to Reading - 6 car vice 5
  • 2R71, 18:57 Paddington to Reading - 6 car vice 5

Whilst some of those are merely returning back to what they've been before, there are the odd extra ones, which, along with the extra seats on all the HST's, now means that there are more seats than there have even been on services heading into and out of London Paddington.

The 06:25ex Banbury to Paddington has been an extremely busy 3-car train for many years with very little room after Burnham, let alone to squeeze any more on from Slough, so that is particularly welcome.

I presume the drive for the 2 to 3 car increase on the Shalford runs is more due to having to run this as a 166 rather than 165 after the 165 first class removal?

Indeed, and if there are any morning cancellations of the earlier HST, then the thing is like sardines by Reading. Great news all round!

Hope this link works, but from a quick glance FGW are generally not advertising Redhills/Shalfords with First Class from 7 September:

That's right - it's just the Gatwick's that are aimed for 166s
