Title: bus gets stuck in penryn Post by: Palfers on July 16, 2015, 21:01:40 Quote A Penryn resident has said a bus that became wedged on one of Penryn's main streets highlights a clear conflict between parking and public transport. The bus became stuck on Helston Road at around 9.30am yesterday as the space between the wheel of a red Volkswagen Golf and a house on the other side meant the space was too narrow for it to pass. Witness Simon West said: "After 20 minutes pedestrians attempted to bounce the car out of the way, but wedged it against the bus. The bus couldn^t move and they have had the road closed since." A police spokesperson said a car had been "parked inconsiderately" and blocked the road, before being removed at around midday. Mr West said: "It happens every week and there has been no action taken by the local council. There is a clear conflict between a severe lack of parking in Penryn and the need to provide public transport through overly-narrow roads. "Yellow lines along Helston road would have a massive impact on us, the residents, yet preventing the buses from using the road would cut off an important public transport route. And it all hinges on a few centimetres of parking space." http://m.falmouthpacket.co.uk/news/13423922.Wedged_bus_highlights_problems_with_Penryn_streets/ that is well and truly wedged any one else think this sort of problem getting worse? I know penryn is terrible for this Title: Re: bus gets stuck in penryn Post by: Richard Fairhurst on July 16, 2015, 21:27:59 Happens reasonably often here in Charlbury - the S3 double-decker was stuck for two hours a couple of weeks ago. I've since put up some notices saying "Please park next to the kerb" which seem to have had a slight effect...
Title: Re: bus gets stuck in penryn Post by: LiskeardRich on July 16, 2015, 21:45:36 The car was parked with its front wheels on full steering lock, it was those extra few inches that stopped the bus getting through.
Some of the smart people commenting about using minibuses on that article clearly haven't travelled between penryn (university) and Falmouth by bus- double deckers are turning passengers away due to being full Title: Re: bus gets stuck in penryn Post by: Palfers on July 16, 2015, 22:26:53 quite a few places in cornwall are tight at the best of times for buses especially in the summer holiday season when the roads become packed with cars! and it's worrying to watch how many struggle to reverse :o

Met in a country lane, behind me was a HGV and quite simply wasn't possible for me or the HGV to reverse. The tourist needed to reverse about 30-40 metres to a gateway but couldn't manage it clipping the hedge 3 times in the first 7 or 8 metres. Being the kind local who's used to narrow roads and tight passing places I manouevered the tourists car into the narrow gateway before myself and the truck behind me could get past. The tourist was getting very flustered and panicking. Used to city roads where they only get to go forwards! Well done. ;) I've had to reverse someone's vehicle for them, too - it makes you wonder how they passed their driving test? ::) Title: Re: bus gets stuck in penryn Post by: Palfers on July 17, 2015, 16:03:40 met a car on the 1 to lands end few weekends ago brand new car old guy in eighties I reckon! deep scratches both sides in the end the bus reversed around blind bend!!
