Title: 17:15 Didcot - Great Malvern on Friday July 3
Post by: Worcester_Passenger on July 03, 2015, 19:08:26
An odd entry on JourneyCheck:
Quote
17:15 Didcot Parkway to Great Malvern due 19:25
This train will no longer call at Hanborough, Combe, Finstock, Charlbury, Ascott-under-Wychwood and Shipton.
This is due to a train fault.

Fast Oxford to Moreton. Adelante with faulty SDO?

That was what I thought at first, but why omit Charlbury?

Gets more interesting - perhaps Ollie can elucidate as he appears to have been manning the @FGW twitter feed at the time and indeed said this to @LizClapton28

Quote
Nature of fault caused delay, stops removed to help recover some of that delay to avoid further disruption

That train was only ever 8 late - been a lot later & still stopped, so I think Ollie may have been telling white porkies? Or at least not quite the whole truth?....do explain, Ollie, please. Knowing where the pax on that train alight, I think FGW will have inconvenienced more by removing those stops than those that get that train from Moreton onwards or even on its return journey.

Train full & sometimes standing as far as Charlbury, vast majority alight Hanborough-Charlbury in fact.

Just overheard it was because there were not enough staff on the train so couldn't stop at smaller stations

Hmmm.....

It gets curiouser and curiouser...

The reason given internally to staff was...

"Overheating of vestibule areas."

 ??? ??? ???

They can certainly be horrid. Been sat on the 'jump seat' in one and there was strong heat and a smell of burning. No doubt the AC exhausts in them.

Or I was on a really faulty one and didn't realize. Either way, not nice.  :-\

Having done a bit of digging it was indeed due to the temperature in the vestibule areas with the TM insisting it was too hot to have people in the vestibule areas.

The vestibule areas ARE air conditioned, despite rumours to the contrary, but they are obviously not maintained very well! ::)

Thanks for doing the digging. As you say, obviously not maintained very well.

Hmmm. That train usually has seats for everyone (assuming is was a 180 and not a 2car 165)....

It was, and yes it does indeed.  I wouldn't have needed many guesses to pick the TM concerned.  I hope management are investigating.

I wonder how the displaced pax were accomodated? Taxis, or had to await next service? The halts I guess would be taxis, but Charlbury/Hanborough pax? And those with bikes?....
