First to close Bracknell bus depot and remove services

One of Bracknell^s main bus operators has announced it is to close its depot and withdraw most of its services from the town.

Bosses at First have made the decision after revealing the firm^s operations in Bracknell have been losing money for some time.

As a result the company will stop running its services on Saturday, August 29 and close its Market Street depot.

The firm also recently lost a contract with Bracknell Forest Council to provide supported bus services, which has added more financial pressure.

Under the new proposals, some services in Bracknell will be retained but will operate from First^s depot in Slough.

There will be an enhanced service 200 from Windsor and Legoland, and the London services 700,701 and 702 will continue but will no longer stop in Bracknell from the end of summer.

The company will continue to provide yellow school bus services from its base at Chertsey.

All other services in Bracknell will stop, including the 90 from Reading, which will be run by Reading Buses from next month.

First^s contract with the council ends on July 12, after which Courtney Buses will operate supported services around Bracknell.

Any customer with a season ticket that runs after August 28 can apply for a refund from Tuesday, August 4.

More information will be available soon about the services the company plans to withdraw.
