Title: Reading out of order
Post by: grahame on June 14, 2015, 19:57:33
Just occasionally "most recent posts" turns up some interesting threads if you (mis)read them as following on from each other.

is it me or is this branch line getting really over grown the amount of trees and bushes that crash along the train certainly wouldn't stick your head out the window on a hst ouch. ....

The same has happened at Waterloo. ....

Is it just me that notices such things?  // Reminds me of a two Ronnies sketch!

Interestingly, we're nearly at the bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo, where Napoleon received a rather good birching, so to speak.  :P ::) ;D

It didn't help my understanding that as soon as I read the title of this topic I thought it had something to do with Reading station being out of order!  ::)

Following the confused theme, is this something to do with a pause while changing trains in Berkshire?

Which reminds me of the story that an American lift (elevator) company was thinking of placing its UK offices in Berkshire so the telephone operators could answer incoming calls with "Otis Reading"...

I'll get my coat...

Damn you beat me to it :) But it's good for me to know I'm not the only sad person that takes pictures of lift control panels :)

I do have a picture of a Schnidler's Lift, but not accessible from my phone. The one above came from a Google image search.

Reading used to be known as "Biscuit Town" due to Huntley and Palmers

Indeed. One of the three Bs it was famous for. Beer  (Simmons later Courage) Biscuits and Bulbs (Suttons Seeds). The town's football team was nicknamed the Biscuitmen before changing to the Royals in the 1970s.

This is getting silly.

... and that, Western Pathfinder, is generally my own view - whenever I (however reluctantly!) have to move some topics over to this 'lighter side' board.  ::) ;) ;D
