Title: What am I agreeing to FGW?
Post by: JayMac on June 13, 2015, 10:56:16
The current web form on FGW's website has a couple of compulsory tick boxes at the bottom of the page. But FGW are keeping it a secret as to what you are agreeing to by ticking them.

Another case of poor systems work!

Where's the quality control?

I think I've posted before "We've all stop thinking"

It's just another case of rushing out a computer solution without doing the Operational Research and Systems Analysis.

DVLA anyone.

It's often verry easy to take the Mic out of the DVLA
However A

small amount of praise won't go amiss every once in a while
At the end of last month they wrote to me to remind me that my driving licence was due for change of picture after the ten year period was up
So I filled out the form and then turned the entire house upside down in the vain hope of finding both parts neither of which came to light (to my shame) as I had my drivers No.in a safe place I used that and rang the DVLA and got through in less than a couple of mins ! The most helpfull chap on the phone who's English was perfect said that it was not going to be a problem and that I should go to the Post Office and let them take my mug shot and that would probably be Ok  so on Thursday afternoon I did just that and on the following Tuesday upon my return from work there in the post was my new licence along with a paper counterpart  even though they were stoping issuing them in a matter of days
So for once I'm Most Impressed with the DVLA. :o

Might be well worth checking  When Does Your Driving Licence Need To Be Changed ???

And just this week the DVLA have been vindicated in the High Court after they withdrew the right from a certain Proserve Enforcement Services to access the DVLA keeper details database. Proserve are one of those companies who allegedly 'manage' private land to prevent trespass by vehicles. The often ropey trespass 'offence' was followed by large invoices to the motorist and threats of, or actual, county court action.

Proserve are, in my opinion, just scamming chancers (no surprise that they are ex-clampers) attempting, and often succeeding, in extorting money from motorists.

The DVLA stopped Proserve form accessing the registered keeper database as they were not members of an Accredited Trade Association (ATA). Proserve appealed that decision by way of judicial review. And lost.

Background: http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=93337 (long thread showing how Proserve operate and the campaign against their dubious practices)
Judgement: http://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/Admin/2015/1605.html

Proserve now have no legitimate way to gather registered keeper details for their invoices unless they join an ATA and abide by the ATA's Code of Practice. That also means abiding by the Protection of Freedoms Act. For those reasons I'm liking the DVLA at the moment.

The system is even better than that, if you have your driver numbers and a recent passport you can renew online, where it just steals your passport photo.
