Title: International Level Crossing Day
Post by: Bmblbzzz on June 03, 2015, 09:39:30
Wishing everyone a happy International Level Crossing Day!

 :) ;D :D 8)

May all your Crossings be smooth, fast and safe, today and on all other days.

I have no idea who thought up this day or what, if anything, happens in relation to it. Is it a UN safety initiative, for instance? Perhaps someone here knows?

Isn't an International Level Crossing the trip from Dover to Calais by ferry?

maybe it is just something invented by the greetings card industry..

"Roses are red,  violets are blue, please raise the barrier, I have to get through"

It's run by the UIC, now styling themselves "UIC-International Union of Railways". It was based on a European initiative, broadened so as to give them an international day to punt to the media.

It has its own website (http://www.ilcad.org/ILCAD-2015.html), of course.

Thanks ^ but what an awful looking website!

I heard about this on R3 news (!!!), I don't know if it's been publicised anywhere else (or how it ended up there).

I imagine several car drivers who sit for what seems like hours near Thatcham crossing will sympathise with this :)

Beats my offering:

"Roses are red, Violets are glorious, Quick! Hit the deck! It's Oscar Pistorius!"
