Title: How do I buy my ticket?
Post by: grahame on January 22, 2015, 12:32:58
Tomorrow, long after the staffed ticket counter has been closed for the day, I'll be dropped off at Bradford-on-Avon to travel by train to Montpelier, coming back in the evening but continuing on through to Trowbridge and thence via connection to Melksham.

The ticket I require, then, is an off-peak Melksham to Montpelier, at ^9.20.    How do I obtain said ticket - do I buy anything (and if so, what) from the TVM at Bradford-on-Avon and how / where do I get it upgraded?

P.S. I have no opportunity to go to a manned ticket office today

Either buy on FGW website and pick up at the TVM, or simply purchase a ticket from Melksham on the train, I've often bought a ticket from Frome on the train when I've boarded at Trowbridge when I've wanted to return to Frome, it doesn't seem to be a problem even if the train never went near your return station.

Slightly surprised to see the offpeak return fare MKM-MTP showing as ^109... does anyone else think that's a bit steep?

That's a not uncommon bug with NRE. If a certain fare is missing from its database it will occasionally offer a Rover (and then, not necessarily the cheapest one) instead. In this case it appears to be offering a 8 in 15 Freedom of the South West Rover.
