The incident happened between Dingle Road station and Penarth

A woman who was hit by a train between Cardiff and Penarth has died.

The incident happened just before 06:00 GMT on Wednesday near Dingle Road station and the woman was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff where she later died.

British Transport Police (BTP) said it is not treating the death as suspicious.

Arriva Trains Wales services were disrupted during the morning but have since returned to normal.

A BTP spokesman said: "Inquiries are ongoing to establish the woman's identity and inform her next of kin. A file will be prepared for the coroner."
