Note for mods: Not sure this topic is on the right board Road vehicles do seem to have a poor fire safety record if compared to trains, this is only the latest channel tunnel mishap to be caused by a road vehicle fire. Numerous on-line vendors offer a wide variety of 24 volt gadgets for use in HGVs including heating and cooking appliances. Some of these seem to me to be of doubtful safety, and even if they ARE safe in themselves, I wonder about how safely they are connected, and how many blown fuses are replaced by larger ones. Not certain where this thread belongs ? perhaps "the wider picture" might be better ? Title: Re: Lorry fire in Channel Tunnel causes closure - 17 January 2015 Post by: LiskeardRich on January 17, 2015, 15:20:05 Looking at the wider picture, lorry fires on ferries also seem to be a regular occurrence. Many are relatively minor and don't make the news other than perhaps in the local rag in the ports at either origin or destination.

19 Jan at 12:55 Quote Eurostar services have been disrupted AGAIN today after a fire in a Paris suburb damaged part of the track. A blaze close to the line in St Denis has forced a part closure of the track - meaning services cannot enter or exit the Gare du Nord. The incident reportedly left the line damaged, leading to potential delays. It is unclear when services in and out of the station are due to resume.
