Update 9.35am: British Transport Police confirm man hit by train near Yate lost his life

A man has died after being hit by a train near Yate.

British Transport Police were called at 6.48am this morning to a location approximately half a mile north of Yate station.

The man was confirmed dead at the scene. The coroner at Flax Bourton has been informed.

As a result of the incident replacement buses were put in place until just after 9am.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: ^We were called at 6.48am on Tuesday, January 6, to reports of a person being hit by a train near to Yate railway station.

^Colleagues from Avon & Somerset Constabulary and South Western Ambulance Service also attended. The body of a man, who has yet to be identified, was located. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

^Officers are working to confirm the man^s identity and inform his family. The incident is being treated as non-suspicious. A file will be prepared for the coroner.^
