Body found on train line from Llanelli to Swansea

A man's body has been found on the train line between Llanelli and Swansea.

He was discovered at about 08:30 GMT on Saturday outside Cockett Tunnel and the line was closed for around two hours.

Services had to be diverted to Port Talbot and did not stop at Gowerton, Swansea and Neath, Arriva Trains Wales said.

A British Transport Police spokesman said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

The death of a man whose body was found by a railway tunnel on the line between Carmarthen and Swansea is not being treated as suspicious.

The body was discovered on the Llanelli side of the Cockett tunnel in Swansea on Saturday morning, causing delays from Carmarthen train station.

South Wales Police were called at 8.27am, with British Transport Police officers and paramedics were also in attendance.

The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "British Transport Police officers attended the (rail) line close to Cockett tunnel, Swansea, after a report that a deceased male had been found nearby. Paramedics attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene."

He added that the death was not being treated as suspicious, and that a file will be prepared on behalf of HM Coroner.

The incident resulted in the delay of train services run by First Great Western and Arriva Trains Wales between Carmarthen and Llanelli, and stations further east.
