Title: A use for Melksham services!! Post by: vacman on January 22, 2008, 09:47:34 Well, if your lucky enough to work in Gloucester and live in Melksham then you've got the perfect commuter train!! in Gloucester just before 0900 and leaving just after 1700! i'm sure there might be someone out there who will find it useful! though i'm sure hundreds would find it more useful to have their Swindon commuter service back!! ;)

Post by: grahame on January 23, 2008, 05:47:31 Totally agreed, Vacman ... that's taking the Stroud Valley commuter service and counting Chippenham and Melksham as a peak hour extension of it (Trowbridge and Westbury being serviced by trains from Gloucster via Bristol and Bath, so gaining less). Ironically, I happened to be doing a week in Barnwood (near Gloucester) just a few weeks before December '06 changes; I'm sure I would have used the new service after the changes, although even there I would have been left with an awkward cross-city journey.
Commuter flows from West Wilts ... top 4 (in alphabeic order) are Bath Bristol Salisbury and Swindon - the exact order varting from West Wilts town to West Wilts town. Alas, Gloucester doesn't feature on that list but is probably well down the "also-ran"s. Derek Twigg wrote to my MP, at about the time the service was changing, "we can't run a service just to suit Mr Ellis". Agreed, and I wasn't asking for a personal train. But if anyone tried to seriously suggest that the Gloucseter timing was to meet a market - and I know that you are NOT saying it seriously in that way, Vacman, - then it would me (in magnitude) something around the size of the market that Mr Twigg thought he was denying me! They have completely failed to deliver on their published remit to deliver. http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/index.php?topic=1509.0 FGW et al are also complicit, but get your keyboards ready for whoever takes over the mantle for transport in the new unitary authority. ;D ;D This page is printed from the "Coffee Shop" forum at http://gwr.passenger.chat which is provided by a customer of Great Western Railway.
