Title: Opening of the Wilts, Somerset and Weymouth Post by: grahame on December 12, 2014, 13:21:04 On Thursday, 7 September, 1848, Devizes & Wiltshire Gazette published an article relating the events of the grand opening of the Wilts, Somerset, and Weymouth Railway from Thingley to Westbury held at the New Market House in Melksham. The Directors and dignitaries met there after a noon test run down to Westbury and back. The following is a retelling of this article in play form:

Title: Re: Opening of the Wilts, Somerset and Weymouth Post by: bobm on December 12, 2014, 17:55:13 Interestingly, I have just been reading about the opening of BBC Wiltshire Sound in 1989 (now known as just BBC Wiltshire).

I wonder if any audio or photos survive. This page is printed from the "Coffee Shop" forum at http://gwr.passenger.chat which is provided by a customer of Great Western Railway.
