Title: Station Usage Figures Post by: John R on December 04, 2014, 12:33:46 http://orr.gov.uk/statistics/published-stats/station-usage-estimates
The usage figures for 2013/4 have been published today on the ORR website, for those of us who are statistically minded. Title: Re: Station Usage Figures Post by: grahame on December 04, 2014, 14:12:59 Thanks, John
I've done a quick filter .... FGW stations, entrances and exits, at http://www.wellho.net/data/fgw2014.txt Whole country, entrances and exits, at http://www.wellho.net/data/ee2014.txt Graphs, charts, etc to be updated - these figures are out about 3 months earlier than in previous years! Title: Re: Station Usage Figures Post by: grahame on December 04, 2014, 14:31:59 and with usage figure annually right back to 2004-2005 at http://www.wellho.net/data/rstats2014.xyz
Note - new stations opened in the year in question not yet included Title: Re: Station Usage Figures Post by: Western Enterprise on December 04, 2014, 15:23:03 Wow - some large % increases on the London terminals.
Over the past 10 years an increase of 58% at Waterloo and 69% at Victoria. Waterloo not far shy of nearly 100m in and outs a year, compared to 62m in 2004. The good old Doctor was right on that one ....... :D :-X Title: Re: Station Usage Figures Post by: NickB on December 04, 2014, 15:24:26 Coombe station = 42 ?!?!
Title: Re: Station Usage Figures Post by: eightf48544 on December 04, 2014, 16:15:35 Castle Cary seems to be missing from official list.
There's Castle Bar Park then Castleton Title: Re: Station Usage Figures Post by: ChrisB on December 04, 2014, 16:24:37 Check out Tesside Airport - supposedly the lowest figure!??
Title: Re: Station Usage Figures Post by: chrisr_75 on December 04, 2014, 16:24:46 Castle Cary seems to be missing from official list. There's Castle Bar Park then Castleton It is there in both sets of data! I had the same problem with some other stations until I sorted by station name - the listing supplied by Graham is sorted by station code, which produces a different order to sorting by long name. Anyway, the numbers you're looking for are: CLC 244846 Castle Cary Title: Re: Station Usage Figures Post by: chrisr_75 on December 04, 2014, 16:26:39 Check out Tesside Airport - supposedly the lowest figure!?? I noticed that too. It appears to be correct, it has only 2 services a week that call on Sundays and is a 15 minute walk from the airport site according to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teesside_Airport_railway_station (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teesside_Airport_railway_station) Title: Re: Station Usage Figures Post by: Richard Fairhurst on December 04, 2014, 16:53:30 Goodness me. Hanborough has really pulled ahead of Kingham...
Title: Re: Station Usage Figures Post by: IndustryInsider on December 04, 2014, 16:58:06 Indeed, Richard.
Hanborough up almost 30000 to over 200000 in total, now far ahead of Kingham and not too shy of Moreton-In-Marsh. No doubt largely due to the car parking increase. More reasons not to reduce calls there to run these Cotswold Line expresses that keep getting mentioned on here! Much improved analysis as to possible reasons for large increases/decreases which is good to see. Title: Re: Station Usage Figures Post by: didcotdean on December 04, 2014, 17:09:22 Interested in there being an estimated nearly half a million interchanges estimated at Didcot and Maidenhead, and only half of that at Oxford.
Title: Re: Station Usage Figures Post by: TonyK on December 04, 2014, 18:44:08 Check out Tesside Airport - supposedly the lowest figure!?? Even fewer than Pilning - it must be bad! Title: Re: Station Usage Figures Post by: lbraine on December 04, 2014, 19:17:17 I notice that Tilehurst - a station I know well has over half a million customers.
Compared with Goring and Streatley with under 400K. Both have/are recovering a new footbridge as part of the electrification work. But Tilehurst has no lifts - Goring will Tilehurst has one ticket machine exposed to the elements and impossible to use when raining - Goring has several. Tilehurst up relief has no platform canopy - hence the scrum from the footbridge to train in wet weather - Goring does. How do these decisions fir investment get made !!! Title: Re: Station Usage Figures Post by: ChrisB on December 04, 2014, 20:46:54 Cost/ease of instalation, I imagine
Title: Re: Station Usage Figures Post by: IndustryInsider on December 04, 2014, 21:35:41 Lobbying and affluence of the area might also be factors. Not sure whether Tilehurst's figures might be slighly higher than they actually are due to unpaid fares at Reading, given that it's the cheapest fare to Reading - with the exception of Reading West which also has a suspiciously high figure!

It's a plain text file. We use that extension for data files that we don't want to be opened by a default application but rather saved / offered as 'unknown' for programatic use on our training courses. It's a Tab separated text file. Best to rename it .txt and then open it in the spreadsheet of your choice, selecting Tab as the field separator. Hope this helps. Title: Re: Station Usage Figures Post by: grahame on December 05, 2014, 19:03:43 I've commented on the Melksham figure as it gives an official (published) figure that includes - for the first time - part of the improved trial extra service period.
