Title: Labour reshuffle: Michael Dugher promoted to post of shadow transport secretary

From CILT website (http://ciltuk.org.uk/News/LatestNews/tabid/235/ctl/NewsItem/mid/589/Id/4528/Default.aspx?returnurl=%2fDefault.aspx%3fTabId%3d235%26Page%3d5)

Ed Miliband has carried out a mini-reshuffle of his top team after Jim Murphy quit the shadow cabinet to run to become leader of Scottish Labour.

Mr Murphy has been replaced as shadow international development secretary by transport spokeswoman Mary Creagh.

Ms Creagh is succeeded by Michael Dugher, a close ally of Mr Miliband's.

Commenting on his appointment, Michael said:

"As the proud son of a railwayman, I'm delighted to have been appointed as Shadow Secretary of State for Transport."

"At the next general election, people will face a big choice on public transport. While the Tories are driving up costs, wasting taxpayers^ money and cutting services, Labour will put passengers at the heart of our transport network.

^It is clear to me that local bodies know best the needs of passengers and commuters who use the services.  That^s why we will devolve decisions over the running of local and regional services so that areas can bring together trains, buses and trams into a single network.^

Meanwhile, one of his predecessor Mary Creagh's contributions to the railway debate was covered at http://web.archive.org/web/20131227224057/http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2529783/Thomas-Tank-Engine-blamed-lack-female-train-drivers-engines-male-says-Labour-minister.html  ;) :D ;D

Mary Creagh struck me as quite well-informed, particularly on cycling matters. Dugher's main House of Commons intervention on transport matters, before taking up this job, appears to have been questions about speed cameras and whether they're all painted yellow. :(
